My Vision

As a nerd and web developer, I believe in an open and free web. These values must be reflected in practical choices, even when they are not easy choices.

Cookies

I created this site to share my experiences and information, not to collect yours: this site has no third-party cookies or forms of tracking. Technically, there are three unavoidable technical cookies, one for the functioning of the site, and two for the spam filter on the contact page.

These cookies are so fundamental that there is no obligation to declare them. However, for clarity, I have included acookie policy here.

Accessibility

Accessibility refers to all practices that allow people with disabilities to still enjoy the content of a site. This site has the highest scores in terms of accessibility.

If you are interested in these topics, below are some of my more extensive thoughts on the matter.

Details and reasons for these choices

Cookies and privacy

On this site, you will not be profiled, you will not see advertisements for this site on your social media, and your browsing will be completely anonymous. A site without tracking cookies is a choice that protects users' right to privacy, avoiding the collection and profiling of browsing behavior.

It is a choice of respect and transparency, but also of awareness: my value lies in what I offer and not in user data.

However, it also involves a conscious sacrifice on the part of the site owners: we lose the ability to carry out certain marketing activities based on tracking and profiling, which in certain contexts can be economically advantageous. Precisely for this reason, it is a decision that prioritizes trust, fairness, and transparency.

An open web does not necessarily mean free: there may be information that is shared freely, just as I believe it is right to pay for content if it is considered valuable. However, this must be a transparent and respectful mechanism, not a market for information. Obviously, in many circumstances, cookies and tracking are almost necessary, and there is nothing wrong with using them: I don't like them, and I have decided to do without them.

Disability, accessibility, and related issues

An open web is necessarily an accessible web. It is not a question of customers or potential customers: the InternetMUST be accessible to everyone.

Having a website with the highest levels of accessibility is essential because it ensures that information and services are available to everyone, including those with visual, hearing, motor, or cognitive disabilities. It is not just a matter of social inclusion: accessibility improves the overall quality of the website, making it clearer, more usable, and more robust for all users, even in less than ideal conditions.

Attention to accessibility demonstrates ethical and professional responsibility: designing for accessibility means recognizing that the web is a shared infrastructure and that excluding some people, even unintentionally, should be avoided at all costs.

This website is relatively simple, and making it truly accessible was not such a challenging task. For many companies with complicated web products, accessibility is often a significant cost, both in terms of time and resources. I therefore invite you, when browsing the web, to also pay attention to the accessibility of a site and reward those who invest time and money in these issues, and possibly even report any flaws to the site administrators. Small choices can make a big difference.
